Sold on Hold Pending Funds / US Model 1861 Providence Tool Co. Contract Musket - The Providence Tool Company made about 70,000 contract muskets during the war period. The lock on this piece has all of the requisite markings, “U. (Eagle) S. /PROVIDENCE TOOL CO / PROVIDENCE R I.” and is stamped 1864 behind the hammer. The barrel is stamped with “V/ P/ (eagle) and the date 1864. The gun has the original 2 leaf rear sight and flared tulip ramrod. The stock is in very good condition, with one illegible cartouche and no evident cracks anywhere. The butt plate is stamped “US” and also has a “C” inspectors mark. This gun appears in fine working condition, and is in overall good plus plus - very good condition. Inv.: # 22-170
