Description: You are viewing on used antique Winchester Model 1886 rifle in the highly-desirable 45-70 Gov't caliber. This rifle features a 26" full octagon barrel of extra heavy weight per factory records (barrel definitely "covers" a good deal more of the receiver face than a barrel of standard weight), a full magazine, and crescent butt with typical crescent steel butt plate. Serial # 113610, manufactured in 1897. Copy of Cody records included with firearm (see last pic) verifying configuration and shipping records. Stocks are sound with no splits or cracks and no extra swivel holes. Forearm has been cleaned and revarnished but not sanded and still fits well. Butt shows normal dings and scratches but is still tight and also fits well all around, thankfully not refinished. Action is smooth as butter and half-cock safety functions normally. Bore is absolutely fantastic, a 9 of 10 and is not rebored, the pic I took doesn't do it justice but should give some idea of condition and it should be a fantastic shooter once it's checked over by a competent gunsmith. Case colors on receiver gone and have all silvered out as they commonly did. All markings are clear and correct. Barrel exhibits 65% plummish blue with a small area near receiver that had some sort of gunk chemically cleaned away but was not scratched up, and mag tube about 20% plummish blue. Original sights include an early flat top rear with thumbprint elevator (without patent date, correct for this year of manufacture) and also a Lyman #4 hunting front sight (also mentioned in factory letter). Not many of these extra heavy guns were made so this is quite scarce. 1886s are always high on the collecting priority list, especially in this caliber, so don't let it slip away!! No international sales please. Being an antique, this can ship directly to you assuming your local laws allow it; need copy of driver's license for proof of age (21 and over please). Payment via money order, bank check, or discreet PayPal. 3 day non-firing, no-disassembly inspection allowed, return shipping is your responsibility. Due to weight, shipping and insurance will be an additional $75 via USPS Priority Mail. Thanks for looking!!
