Description:
A fine and rare Winchester Model 1886 Take Down short rifle chambered in the hard hitting 45-70 made in 1903 or 1904. This rifle has quite a few special order options. Take Down...22 inch round barrel...extra light...pistol grip...checkered stocks...shotgun butt plate and special sights. Guaranteed to letter with Cody as i have described. This 86 has an excellent shiny bore with strong rifling. Case colors remain on the lever, hammer and lower tang. The take down mechanism is perfect and tight with no playand beautiful crisp patent date. 70% blue remains on the receiver and 80% blue remains on the barrel fading to plum and 95% on the magazine tube/takedown lever. Stocks are solid with no chips or cracks and have never been sanded or refinished...no gaps and they remain proud of the metal. The checkering looks to have been gone over many years back. The butt stock at the bottom where the sling eye is has had 3 previous holes filled and plugged professionally years ago. The checkered steel butt plate remains in excellent condition. Pistol grip cap remains in excellent condition with its original engraved screw. Ivory bead Marbles front sight and a high velocity semi buckhorn sporting sight on the rear are in excellent shape. All markings on the barrel and action are super crisp and legible. This would be a great hunter/shooter for Elk, Bear and Moose for the advanced Winchester collector.
