Description:
A .50 barreled action with the original walnut forend. This fine item came from a Springfield, Mass. estate and could possibly be made at the armory. I don't see any ID markings on this item. The exterior metal has age staining but not rusted. Left side of frame looks like an area was cleaned up possibly had corrosion. The 23" bore is excellent and looks unfired. Has trigger guard, trigger, mainspring, and a spring down in the frame , possibly for the bottom of the barrel breech extractor, forend, barrel band, and spring, and front sight attached to the barrel, stock screw. This rig is intriguing as the top tang doesn't have the Remington address usually found there, and it looks like it was never there, not removed. Inside frame has two sets of numbers: 6454? and 4393?. This is a good start for a winter project. An antique Western Carbine?
