Description:
L.C. Smith Specialty Grade 16 Gauge Side-by-Side
ORIGINAL, VENT RIB, BEAVERTAIL

General Specs: LC Smith, Year 1939, 16 Gauge, 7lbs 2oz, SxS
Serial Number: 173481

Many are not aware that a L.C. Smith Specialty Grade 16 gauge is a very hard to find gun, with less than 700 in existence.  Not quite rare, but scarce.  Most of these remaining guns are the usual, ie pistol grip, splinter forend, double triggers, ejectors.  About 300 had Hunter One Triggers.  This fine Elsie, sn173481 built in 1939,  is A FAR MORE INTERESTING GUN AND A VERY RARE CONFIGURATION, A "FULLY OPTIONED" FACTORY ORIGINAL GUN IN EVERY WAY, with 28" ventilated rib barrels choked M/F, skeet style beavertail forend, reinforced forend lug, SST, ejectors, double ivory beads, factory pad, everything available as options.  The L.C. Smith Collectors Association letter (and the Production Record book) points out that only 22 Specialty Grade 16's came with ventilated rib barrels, only 34 had beavertails, and only 3 were configured exactly as this one.  Any one of these options make the gun a highly desirable Elsie.  Put them together into one gun and you have a very rare L.C. Smith.  This gun is a VFI CERTIFIED GUN, meaning that the entire action has been stripped to its smallest part, placed in our ultrasonic cleaning device, cleansed to clean, shiny bare metal removing all old oil and residue, each part inspected for integrity, then properly lubricated and reassembled (a $225 service).  VFI provides a 90 day mechanical warranty on VFI CERTIFIED guns.  Who does that on 50-100 year old guns?  Not only is this a fully optioned Specialty in 16ga., but it is also all factory original finishes, with no restorations of any kind, mirror bores, no cracks or repairs, clear sharp engraving, crisp functioning trigger, all ready to hunt upland or break clays for another 75 years.  What a great tangible asset that will grow in value as you enjoy its use.  Thanks for looking!
