Description:
1913 A H Fox A Grade 20 gauge (serial # 200687) with DT, pistol grip and 30" barrels choked full & full. This little Fox was shipped on November 1, 1913 to consignee Ernst Von Lengerke of Von Lengerke & Detmold (NY) and Von Lengerke & Antoine (Chicago) who were the predecessors to Griffin & Howe, research & record keeping. Very interesting documentation comes with this shotgun, and a lot of it, that shows this 20 gauge was shipped on November 1, 1913 from the factory, but not received into the VL & D inventory book in New York until March 12, 1915. Looks like Ernest wanted to give the Fox a little "field trial", first hand. Paperwork goes on to show Von Lengerke family history, Ernst's draft registration in 1918, photo of Ernst with his brother and two sisters and too much more to mention. Historian John Callahan states that this Fox was originally listed as having a weight at 5 lb 14 oz, but later listed with a weight at 5 lb 8 oz, which is it's present weight. Also noted are two different drops at the heel, first at 2 1/2" and then to 2 1/8" DAH. I believe that Ernst Von Lengerke may have had something to do with this. LOP is at 13 5/8". All parts have matching serial numbers, including serial number on the stock head as shown in the photo. The several pages of documentation that comes with this old SxS makes for some interesting reading. This Fox remains in good overall condition with shiney bores, tight lock up and still able to serve many more decades in the field.
