Description:
This 1942 dated Enfield No.4 Mk.1* was made in the U.S. by the Savage Arms Company to help supply the British who were in need of small arms to fight World War 2.  The Brits were mobilizing all of their armed forces as quickly as possible to get them into the fight, but their firearms industry was having trouble keeping up.  This Savage No.4 Mk.1* is stamped "U.S. Property" on the top of the receiver.  It is also stamped "Made in the U.S.A." on the metal receiver band around the wrist above the serial number, date of manufacture, and the letter "S" for Savage.  This rifle is NOT import marked, rather it is British proofed on the end of the barrel per their regulations from it's trip to England during WW2.  This rifle appears to be 100% original, and even the magazine has a matching serial number.  The original finish has a very nice patina to it, and it is even from end to end.  The bore of this rifle is excellent.  The rifling is sharp and strong, and the bore is bright and shiny with no pitting.  The stock set is also in great overall shape.  It appears to be all original and shows no major wear or damage.  It has not been altered or sanded, and shows some minor handling and use marks.  This Savage No.4 Mk.1* comes complete with an original sling that is ink stamped with British acceptance marks and an original oiler in the butt stock trap.  These rifles are getting harder to find in original condition without import stamps, and seem to go up in value every year.  This is a chance to get a nice example that would be at home in any nice military rifle collection.
