This Brn Safari "Africian Hunter"  in caliber .458 Win Mag. -comes w/a document letter from the owner and users. It was accoring to these gentleman  a Brn .264 Magnum built up by Jacques P. (jack) Lot - Technical Editor of Guns & Ammo Magazine. It had two owners:
Maurice A. Machris (1905-80) of the Wilshire Oil Co.. It was used to shoot the Elephant habitat exhibit at the Los Angeles Museum
of Natural History. 1963.
2nd Owner - Max K. Hurlbut (Tht Lt. who wrote a book about the Los Angelos riots of 1965 - The guy who lead  squad of Snipers
to defend the LA Police attempting to control; the rioters on the streets. Anyway Mr. Hurlbut shot an Elephant in the NE Congo (Zaire),
It is documented in  Petersen's Hunting Magazine, March issue 1976. P 50 - "Off the beaten path - Tales from the adventurers club.
The magazine, letter and all of the good info come w/this fine piece.
The gun itself has a few handling marks but overal is a Very Good piece i Great condition. and ready for more Safaring. It's a real Thumper too a ,458 Win. Mag..The custom work was accomplished by both the Browning Factory and  Jacques Lott. The firearm
also features a Muzzle Brake. A very expensive option back in 1960. (About $575.00 intodays money.)
