Description:
Highly Desirable U.S. Government Contract Smith & Wesson Model 3 Schofield Second Model Revolver chambered in .45 S&W Schofield. All matching in original configuration featuring 7” barrel with blue finish & walnut grips, which was standard for the U.S. Government issued Second Model Schofield’s. Remains in good condition with crisp markings throughout & mechanically sound. Metal shows a gray patina throughout mixed with traces of original blue. Walnut grips are very good turning to a dark brown in some areas & show typical use marks with a couple dings. Bottom of backstrap inscribed with initials “M.K.” possibly the individual who was issued the revolver in 1876 by the U.S. Army. Included with Smith & Wesson factory letter confirming this revolver was shipped on October 12, 1876 delivered to The National Armory, Springfield, MA. This shipment was for 3,000 units & they all had 7” barrels, blue finish & smooth walnut grips. Very good example of a highly desirable U.S. issued Second Model Schofield.
