Description:
NSN, .38 caliber, 4 1/2" octagon barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a few touches of mild freckling along its length. This unmarked percussion revolver uses Joseph Bentley's patented action and shows a Colt style rammer and barrel wedge. The revolver retains 85% of the original high lustre bluing along the barrel and about 80% of the original blue along the cylinder. The frame has some original blue remaining which blends smoothly into a dark plum-brown patina on the balance and there are scattered small areas of surface freckling here and there. Some of the screw heads exhibit slot wear. The gun is Birmingham proofed but is otherwise unmarked and the checkered walnut grips are in fine shape with some light flattening of the points as well as minor handling marks on the left panel just below the spur. The mechanism is tight functional with the hand spring a little weak so the cylinder does not rotate when pointed in the air. The revolver rates fine condition overall. This is a terrific pre-Webley Bentley revolver. {Ref: "The Webley Story" by William C. Dowell; 1962} Antique
