Description:
Rare Prescott 22 revolver with birdshead grip. I only remember seeing perhaps 7 or 8 of these little guns in 45 years. Out of all of them, I think only two were marked with Prescott's name and address. Most were unmarked as is this one. This is nickel plated, and retains about 80% or more of the finish, with chipping at the leading edge of the cylinder and on the frame in front of the cylinder. Clearly this was from firing the gun. The walnut grips are complete and intact. The action is functional. There is a small pin missing from a hole in the frame just below the cylinder pin. I can't understand what function it performed, as the cylinder pin release works just fine without it. The hammer is in particularly nice condition, with smoky case colors and the spur intact. The hammer spur is very delicate on these guns and was broken or repaired on some of the examples I've seen. This one is completely undamaged. By the shape of the cylinder pin, I think this is made during E. A. Prescott's Worcester period rather than his later Hatfield location. The barrel is
2 3/8", and the gun is just over 5" overall. This is a difficult gun to find for a collector of 22 cal. handguns.
