Pond Worcester Mass patent 1863 22 cal revolver with separate chambers for front loading. Uses the standard early copper cased 22 RF short cartridge inserted from the front of the cylinder, over which the chamber is slid rearward over the cartridge. All this was to evade the Smith & Wesson patent on the drilled through cylinder. This gun is complete with all 7 chambers and the correct numbered cylinder pin/ arbor over which the chamber slides to remove a fired shell and insert a new one. The gun has all the correct markings on the barrel top, in a very weak stamping; and the 1864 patent on the top left flat of the barrel. There is no finish on the metal, which was probably a silver wash on the fame and a blue on the barrel and cylinder. The grips, which are complete, have some of the varnish remaining. Mechanically it works well. The barrel is the standard 3 1/2". The steel has faded to a medium/dark gray patina. Serial number is 43x. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Lucius W.
