We look forward to being of service. Description: 24" tapered round barrel with blade front sight, 1 standing and 2 folding express sights. Lyman #21 receiver sight. Lightly figured walnut stock with ebony-inlaid schnabel forend, sling eyes, straight English grip and smooth steel shotgun buttplate. One part of vestigial claw mount base fitted to forend, banding barrel---or possibly some kind of bracket clip for retaining the rifle in a howdah. Receiver scroll engraved Lyon & Lyon Calcutta. Very good bore. In period brass-bound oak trunk case bearing escutcheon engraved: Lt. Col. Henry H. Mathias V.C. / Presented By / 1st Gordon Highlanders. Mfd. Ca 1905. Old refinish.
