Description:
For sale, a very nice Colt Model 1917 U.S. Army revolver in .45 ACP.  This Colt Model 1917 revolver was manufactured in 1919 according to the Colt applied serial number of 172521 on the frame.  This 1917 is in used, but beautiful shape overall.  You can tell that it has been well cared for since it left the Colt factory and was issued.  The original factory applied Colt blue finish is still nice and bright on the majority of the gun.  As you can see in the pictures there are some areas on the frame that had some surface rust at some point, and the grip straps front and rear have oxidized from handling over the years but the overall appearance of the revolver doesn't suffer for it.  The walnut grip panels are in excellent shape with no cracks or repairs and they are fit beautifully to the frame; nice and tight.  The bore on this Colt is minty and bright.  The rifling is still sharp and strong with no pitting whatsoever.  All six of the cylinder bores are equally as minty.  All of the Colt factory and U.S. Military stampings are sharp and clear.  The different polishing angles put on it during assembly are also still clearly visible.  This is particularly true around the front sight blade and behind the recoil shield on the right side of the weapon.  The action is like-new.  It pulls nicely in double or single action and it locks up tight with ZERO discernable play.  Being that this Colt 1917 was made just after World War 1 ended, our best guess is that this example was never issued for service in combat and was brought home between the wars, or it was in storage until being issued to a tanker or mortar/artilleryman in World War 2 who brought it home after their service.  The condition is too nice to have spent much time out in the weather in front line combat.  What IS known for certain is that this a great original example of this venerable American sidearm and you would be hard pressed to find a nicer example, issued or otherwise.
