Description:
For sale, a six shot .31 caliber "Pepperbox" revolver made by the Union Arms Company. The Union Arms Co. was a trade name of the William W. Marston Company who also used many other trade names. Marston was a prolific maker of "Pepperbox" revolvers based in New York, and had a reputation for making reliable pistols. This revolver has .31 caliber barrels measuring 4 inches in length. They are constructed in the fluted style rather than the more commonly seen ribbed style. It uses a "bar hammer" construction with a double action firing mechanism. It has a iron frame and bag shaped walnut grips. The frame is decorated with some scroll and floral engraving which was standard on this model. The only identifying stampings on this pistol appear on the top of the bar hammer, where it is stamped "The Union Arms Co.". As you can see from the photos, this example shows it's age and some wear and tear. The pistol has a browned patina overall with just traces of the blue finish left on the barrel cluster. This "Pepperbox" does appear to still function properly in-time, but it is NOT being sold as a safe to fire example. This Union Arms Co. Pepperbox is a great example of early American ingenuity and design and would make a great decorator or addition to your percussion firearms collection.
