Description:
This fine Colt SAA was the personal sidearm of US Marshal Kehoe C. Shannon, of San Antonio, Texas. He was born in Presidio County, and began his law enforcement career with the Presidio County Sheriff's Deparment, in 1927. He was then Chief Criminal Deputy for the Sheriff's office of El Paso. He was appointed US Marshal for El Paso, in 1936. Official appointment as Western District Marshal, by President Truman, occured on May 21, 1948.
He later served in the Bexar County Sheriff's Department, where he retired in 1963. Marshal Shannon passed away in San Antonio on November 1, 1970. The revolver was shipped to Wolf and Klar, c/o Hudson & Company in Ft. Worth, Texas on June 24, 1927, as stated by letter from Colt. It was engraved after shipping. The hand made ivory grips contain a medallion with Marshal Shannon's name, and includes the date presented to him. \
