Description:
Woodward two shot derringer, not easy to find. English manufacture, about 1865. Caliber 30 rimfire short.Overall length 4 7/8". Swivel barrel, with half cock safety on backstrap. Serial Number 735. Fully marked on the left side of the frame; and with the serial and proofs on the barrels. The frame has a heavy silver plate, quite old, and looks as if it could be the original finish with about 98% remaining. It has turned a medium gray color. The blue barrels have turned a medium dark gray patina, with little metal disturbance. The action is fine. The grips have been revarnished, but have the original engraved escutcheons and a very fine checkering. There are two tiny chips in the wood, one on each side at the top of the frame junction. One has been repaired, one has not. Both grips are a little oversize at the top of the backstrap. The bores have been shot and not cleaned, leaving spots of corrosion and a dark bore. Overall this small derringer looks very nice, is well marked, and is mechanlcally sound.
