Payment Types Accepted: check, credit cards (3% fee) Description: American Arms Co Boston Mass two shot swivel barrel derringer. American Arms made 5 varieties of this design. This one, a flat butt frame, chambered for 32 rf in both barrels, is the second rarest. (the one with both barrels in 22 cal is the rarest). Also, this one is factory engraved, making it even rarer. The gun has only bear traces of original silver on the brass frame, and traces of original blue on the barrels. The engraving on both sides of the frame and the backstrap is typical in pattern and coverage to those American Arms derringers that show up occasionally. Whoever the engraver was (most likely in Boston), he must have engraved on guns almost exclusively for American Arms. His style hasn't shown up so far on other makes of firearms. The maker's markings on the top of one barrel are clear. The Wheelers Patent markings on the top of the other barrel are also clear. It is interesting to see so many broken letter dies in the patent markings. Evidently they didn't want to spend the extra money replacing the dies. Mechanically the gun is fine. The grips have some varnish, and the left grip has a tiny at the toe. I have been unable to remove the grips as the grip screw has frozen into the right escutcheon. The serial number is 5146, and the assembly number is Z91. This is a very rare engraved derringer. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: American Arms Co Model: Derringer two shot Serial Number: 5146 |
