Description:
Serial #1900, Flayderman # 5B-132 .38 RF, 3 1/2” Round barrel with a very good, bright bore that has some minor freckling within the grooves. This revolver is not a conversion but was one of 3500 built as a cartridge revolver originally. It has all matching numbers, although the arbor is numbered “363” the same is stamped under the trigger guard on the frame. This was probably pulled out of a bin at the factory with the number already applied. These guns were shipped all the way up to 1880s. The metal has a fairly even, pewter gray patina throughout with mild freckling and a few scattered small impact marks as well. Old cleaning marks are present on the barrel assembly and the brass trigger guard has a pale yellow-ochre patina that is quite even and uniform in hue. The walnut grip is in fine shape with only some minor handling marks and blemishes, mostly on the top and bottom of the right side. The old oil finish has crackled over time and flaked along the butt and frame juncture as well. The lock-up is still solid and the mechanism is fully functional without any lateral play in the barrel. The action works intermittently and appears to only need a little tension on the hand spring. This is a great looking Colt conversion in very good-near fine condition that would make a nice addition to any collection. {Ref: “A Study of Colt Conversions and Other Percussion Revolvers” by R.
