Description:
Parker GH 8 Gauge SxS Shotgun

36” Damascus Steel Barrels, 1 of only 16 made in this configuration

General Specs: Parker, Year 1911, 8 Gauge, 13lbs, 2oz, Side by Side Shotgun
Serial Number:  156790

This Parker is an 8 gauge made in 1911.  Its bore size is 0.845” compared to a 12 gauge bore of 0.729”.  A little over a tenth of an inch may not seem like much on paper but pick up this 13+ pound shotgun and let loose between 1 and ½ and 2 and ¾ ounces of shot from each barrel and you will soon learn what a tenth of an inch will do!   8 gauges were water fowling guns that in the hands of a master gunner could indeed kill birds at very long ranges. They were however outlawed for waterfowl in 1918 by the Federal Migratory Bird Act.  Today 8 gauge guns, especially Parkers are collector items.  I use my 8 gauges for occasional rounds of sporting clays breaking more birds, especially at long ranges, than my ability should allow.

This Parker GH 8 gauge was cleaned by Brad Bachelder, Master Gunmaker of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and master side by side restorer.  He informed me that this was the highest condition, unrestored 8 gauge that had come through his shop.  You may contact Brad to validate this claim.

There were approximately 150 Parker GH 8 gauges made, but only 16 with 36” Damascus Steel barrels in the top action design.  How many remain?  These fowling pieces were mostly hunter hard so it's hard to find a high condition 8 gague. This GH Parker 8 gauge is all original condition, all matching part numbers, very rare and highly collectible.

Loading data is available for smokeless powder 1.5 to 2.75 ounce loads.  Commercial hulls and wads are also available from Winchester and Remington.  There are also specialty converted loading presses available.  An 8 gauge isn’t for everyone, is this one for you?
