Winchester Model 1886 sporting rifle .50 Express with factory 26 inch Octagon Barrel. The serial number of this example is 689XX placing date of manufacture in 1892. The Buffalo Bill Museum letter that will accompany this .50 EXP. provides the following description at time of shipment from the Warehouse: Serial number applied on July 20th, 1892, Type: Rifle, Caliber: .50/110, Barrel Type: Octagon, Trigger: Plain, Received into the Warehouse on August 12,1892, Shipped from the Warehouse on: September 09, 1892 Order number 5348, No record of R&R. Overall condition is very good with 80% of the original factory rust blue toning to a blue/grey patina. The metal is smooth and damage free. The bore is perfect, bright and shiny from breech to muzzle. The bore will rate a 10 on a 1 to 10 scale. The action is tight, smooth and mechanically perfect. Wood to metal fit is perfect. The walnut looks to be "extra fancy" and is undamaged with no evidence of sanding. A very nice, properly priced .50 Express!
