BEAUTIFUL CUSTOM BALLARD BY RED WILLOW (LATER BOUGHT OUT BY THE BALLARD RIFLE & CARTRIDGE COMPANY OF CODY, WYOMING), This one is a rare deluxe No.5 Pacific rifle with checkered pistol grip (Pacific rifles almost always have straight stocks and no checkering) and matching checkered forend, nicely grained fancy walnut of a deep and dark reddish/brown color, checkered steel shotgun butt plate, chambered in .40-65 WCF (barrel authentically marked "40-60" which is the .40-60 Marlin chambering that is identical to the .40-65 WCF), double set triggers, nicely case colored receiver and lever, 30" octagon barrel with twin thimbles underneath to hold a cleaning rod, has a mid-range vernier tang sight adjustable for elevation with Hadley eye disc and fully windage adjustable globe front sight that will take apertures, the rear barrel sight dovetail has a blank filler and does not look like it ever had a sight installed, shows very little use and is tight with perfect bore, comes with 50 rounds of new & unfired Starline brass, unmarked except for the serial number on the bottom of receiver (#8XXX) so possibly they used an original Ballard receiver that was re-case hardened etc. (?), weighs 11 lbs, a beautiful Ballard sporting or target rifle with fine sights.
