Nice looking mixed parts M1 Garand. Receiver is Springfield Armory serial number 24345xx, made in January 1944. The barrel is a NOS (new old stock) Springfield, dated January 1955. No import marks.
 
This rifle is in excellent used condition. It was assembled from mixed parts, and is not presented as a matching collector’s item.
 
Two M1 enbloc clips (no ammo) are included.


 
SA M1 sn 24345xx Specs:
 
 
  • Receiver: marked “D 28291 32” on leg, heat lot 057B<>. Excellent condition, no pitting. Black refinish with no wear.
 
  • Barrel: marked “SA F6535448 1 55 MD 4” in op rod slot, with “P”, “M” and small stars and eagle. NOS (new old stock) from the wrap. Chamber finish reamed to this bolt.
 
  • Barrel Gauge Measurements: MW(muzzle wear): ½, TE(throat erosion):  2
 
  • Clip latch: late square front type, unmarked
 
  • Op rod: curved side, marked “D35382 2 SA, modified. VG condition, no pitting, black finish shows some wear. Op rod and bolt cycle freely by tilting when everything is assembled except main spring and hammer (Garands with binding or rubbing op rods tend to have feeding and/or ejecting problems).
 
  • Op rod catch: late type, unmarked
 
  • Bullet guide: late stamped type with notch
 
  • Follower: late type, unmarked
 
  • Follower arm: no bevel
 
  • Follower rod: long fork, riveted
 
  • Bolt: NOS, marked “6528287-SA 7-4-B”. The bolt was left out of the rifle as disassembled photo, but individual bolt photos are included in the listing.
 
  • Rear sight base: late SA type, unmarked
 
  • Sight knobs: T-105 postwar type, unmarked other than scale
  • Rear sight cover: late type with ribs
 
  • Rear sight aperture: double track, unmarked
 
  • Trigger housing:  marked “D28290-12-SA” Small pad, cloverleaf hole, no pitting, trigger group has worn finish
 
  • Trigger guard: milled WWII type, marked “X” inside
 
  • Trigger: late type, no extra hole
 
  • Hammer: marked “C46008-5 SA”
 
  • Hammer spring plunger: late type without wings
 
  • Safety: round top, marked “50-554-6015 AFB”, probably of foreign manufacture – works fine
 
  • Gas cylinder: wide sight platform, rear tang marked “PB”, Beretta. Gas cylinder group finish excellent.
 
  • Front sight: 0.74 wide, unmarked.
 
  • Gas cylinder lock: beveled front type, unmarked
 
  • Gas cylinder screw: cross slot poppet valve type, marked “T”
 
  • Stock and handguards: new, walnut, rubbed oil finish (drying oil, which leaves a gloss coat similar to polyurethane or other top coatings). Wood surfaces were straightened, the stock was reduced to eliminate buttplate overhang, and adjusted to this receiver and action.
 
  • Sling: new repro
