Description:
********SOLD********

A Large Percentage of these M1878's have had their 7-1/2" barrels robbed to restore Colt SAA's.  Others were cut off to about 5".  This example remains original.  [The need to conceal revolvers due to new city ordinances, and the advent of the automobile, made 7-1/2" barreled Colts unwieldy to carry].

By far, the most popular calibers were 45 and 44-40.  Only 970 (almost 2% of the 51,210) of this model were made in 32-20 during production 1878 to 1905.  A total of 261 of the 32-20’s were blued with 7-1/2” barrels.

Overall this gun retains 10% blue, with about 20% on frame and generous traces on ejector housing, barrel, and cylinder.  The balance ranges dark to light gray.  All markings including barrel address, caliber, rampant Colt, and serial numbers are bold.  The serial number 50384 appears on butt with matching 384 on trigger guard under the frame.  Although oddly matching the serial number, the gate #84 is actually an assembly number that is also found on grip frame under the grips.

The mechanism works properly in both single and double action.  The bore is way above average for a 32 caliber, with strong lands and grooves and only light scattered pitting.  The grips are replacements that fit extremely well, and are free of any chips or abuse.

This was a one-gun shipment to T. B. Davis Arms Company of Portland, Oregon.  The factory letter confirms all features of this gun.

In some cases, I can ship directly to a C&R licensed individual.

You won't find another Colt M1878 in 32-20 of this quality at this price again!  And with a $150 Colt Factory authentication letter to boot.
