Description:
#4830 Unmarked English Double Barrel 28GA shotgun with external hammers, probably made in the late 1870s up to the late 1890s, but not being the usual Belgian “cottage industry” example and not having Belgian proofs. This is a better gun and has some engraving and what appears to be a select grade of wood. Aside of the proofmarks, the only marking is the word “ENGLISH” stamped on one of the Damascus twist barrels. The bores are a bit above average and should clean even better, and both of the lightly engraved sidelock actions are working properly. There is a slight bit of play in the bbl/frame junction, but it is minor and could be tightened easily, if desired . The metal is VG, but the wood leaves much to be desired with a repair to the wrist and wood filler added around the tangs. This little scattergun is no great collectors piece, but it is a rather scarce little gun with being a 28GA, and would be an interesting addition to a modest shotgun collection as well as being an easy gun to do some repairs to upgrade the wood. $265
