Description:
By far, the most popular calibers were 45 and 44-40.  Only 308 (0.6% of the 51,210) of this model were made in 41 Colt during production 1878 to 1905.  A total of 137 of the 41 Colt’s were blued with 4-3/4” barrels.  James Serven, author of “Colt Firearms”, stated that 41’s were made, but he never saw one!

Overall this gun retains no blue, and the surface is generally dull gray with some areas having a spotty appearance.  All markings, including barrel address, caliber, rampant Colt, and serial numbers are very clear.  The serial number 33689 appears on butt with matching #689 on trigger guard under the frame.  The cylinder #639 is a simple factory error.  Serial numbers were placed on gates until the 7xxx range, and afterward the gate was given an assembly number.  On this 41 the gate #89 is also found on the left grip frame under the grips.

The mechanism works properly in both single and double action.  The bore is decent, with strong lands and grooves and expected light scattered pitting.  The grips are original.  The noisy lanyard was removed, but the swivel remains.

Factory letter confirms 41/c, 4-3/4", blue, rubber, & shipped to Colt's Patent Firearms Mfg Co., San Francisco agency, San Francisco, CA on 6-29-1897, 1gun.
