Churchill Best Boxlock Ejector, Circa 1900, best quality boxlock and forerunner to the Hercules model, 12 bore, 2 1/2" chambers, 30" barrels choked .005 Skt. and .011 IC, 6 lbs. 6 oz., 14 3/4" LOP over leather pad, 1 1/2 DAC, 2 1/8" DAH, 1/4" cast off, straight grip, splinter forend, double triggers, ejectors, heavy mineral lined English walnut that has been refinished and is possibly a replacement, action has very fine English scroll engraving with maker's name in banner along with maker's overlaid script initials "EJC" on bottom, automatic safety with "Safe" in gold, stippled concave game rib, barrels engraved on top "E.J. Churchill, Gun & Rifle Manufacturer" on one and "8 Agar St. Strand London W.C." on other, originally no. 1 of a pair with "1" in gold in typical places, original London proof marks but no nitro proof marks or load marks so must have been black powder proved in 1900 which is a bit uncommon. Bores are .729 in both, min. barrel wall thickness is .021 on right and .026 on left. Excellent condition with excellent reblack and stock finish, checkering is all recut and fresh, one small edge inset repair on forend. A top quality London boxlock from the period when best quality boxlocks were being made. SOLD |
