Description:
1950s or before (?) Randall Hunting Knife and sheath. Knife and sheath are as I found them in my father's estate.
The knife has a nickel-silver hilt and a brass pin in the antler handle. Blade is 7 1/8 " overall and 6 1/8" + from heal to tip. The knife itself, from the tip of the blade to the end of the handle, is 12 1/4 ". The blade, hilt and handle are solid as a rock: nothing moves. The blade appears to have the original grind with no deep scratches. A 14x handlens reveals a couple of spots with very shallow pitting, though the majority of the blade is smooth and clear. The sharpening stone and the pocket it went in are missing, and the sheath, though dry, is not rotted. Some saddle soap and Obenauf's should revive it. I've left the knife and the sheath as I found them in the belief that a collector would prefer them that way. I'm not a Randall or knife expert, but this particular knife feels great in the hand and is a joy to behold.
