Description:
Take a step back in time with this rare Grade 8 Colt Model 1878 hammer shotgun, which was manufactured in 1882.  It is the highest grade Colt offered other than special order.  The engraving is deep and crisp, the wood is gorgeous as properly reconditioned, and the 28-inch Damascus steel barrels are striking as refinished using the traditional slow-rust blue and etching process.  The color case hardening is redone by Classic Guns, Crete, IL.  The 12-gauge barrels have full-length 20-gauge custom tubes installed by Briley Manufacturing, Houston, TX.  The gun comes with a set of 5 interchangeable Briley chokes.  It weighs 8 lb 7 oz with tubes.  The length of pull from the front trigger to the end of the original buttplate is 14 inches.  The drop at the comb is 2-1/2 inches and at the heel 3-1/2 inches.  The gun locks up tight and all serials numbers, 12612, match.

The inspection period is 7 days from receipt by buyer.  This shotgun has been fired using standard factory 2-3/4” 20-gauge target loads.  However, as for any vintage shotgun, it is recommended that the new owner have it inspected by a professional gunsmith before firing.  The gun should not be shot without the barrel tubes.  The gun carries a 30-day warrantee, during which Back in Time will have any mechanical problems documented by a professional gunsmith repaired or accept the return of the gun and refund the price of the gun and return shipping cost.  The original price of the gun does not include shipping, which is paid by the buyer.  If you have questions, please do not hesitate to call Stephen Wesbrook at 703-625-4830:  Back in Time – preserving late 19th and early 20th century double shotguns.
