Excellent action with perfect timing and lock-up - bore is bright and shiny with crisp rifling but shows some light to moderate roughness. Metal is excellent overall with perfect screws and sharp markings - a few small areas of light pits on cylinder, barrel, and hammer. Barrel and lever retain about 75% -80% thinning blue with flashes of darker blue beneath - the cylinder has abou 75% thinning blue with light "browning" beneath - excellent nipples. The frame has drifted to a grayish patina and the brass guard and backstrap have a nice mellow tone. The walnut grips are VG - show some chipping on the left lower portion, evidence of a nice older chip repair on the lower right front, and a minor surface crack on the left side along with initials "C.S." stamped on butt - good fit to frame and retain about 80% finish. A nice early Civil War 1861 Navy that is unaltered in VG+ or better condition and has seen some service but has been relatively well maintained and will make a nice addition to a Civil War collection.
