Description:
Description:
This has to be one of the smallest 22 short rimfire revolvers ever made as standard production!  Can be easily concealed in the palm of a hand.  The overall length as shown is about 5 inches.  This seven shot revolver works perfectly in both single and double action, and cylinder locks up tight almost as when new.  It has a 2 inch octagon barrel with a strong H&R address.  The topstrap is marked “Young America” and “Double Action”.  The barrel retains its original and unaltered half-moon front sight.

This tiny gun must have been made for the ladies, as I have a tough time getting my index finger ahead of the trigger!  It can be more easily cocked, and in that state of firing the trigger comes back with plenty of finger room, and the cylinder does lock up tight.  Evidently the cocked firing pin was the rear sight, with no sighting groove in the top strap.  Honestly, I would pick another model for target shooting!  Just kidding!  But I will say that the quality seems above average, with some tight-tolerance machining and quality hard rubber grips being evident.

This little revolver was produced from 1898 to 1904 and was intended for black powder (see Warning Against Smokeless Powder below under “Terms”).  With no caliber marking on the barrel, we know that this gun was produced prior to 1905.  When H&R redesigned for smokeless powder the caliber marking was added.  It remains in fine condition with about 95% nickel finish and 85% blue on trigger guard.  The nickel has a few small rust spots as pictured, most being just tiny specks in size.  The largest is on the edge of the topstrap, and is less than a 1/8” square, with a gray color that blends.  The hammer and trigger were casehardened, and have developed a smooth dark gray color.

This one has a low serial number #4124 as found under the left grip.  The excellent condition hard rubber grips show almost no wear, and bear the matching number 4124 scratched inside of both.  Grips fit perfectly and have no chips or any other damage.  The bore has strong sharp rifling with some corrosion from black powder and mercury fulminate rimfire priming.

The original cylinder pin has nice knurling and has not been mangled with a pair of pliers.  Overall a nice little revolver in a condition hard to improve.

Since year of manufacture cannot be proven, this one must go to an FFL dealer.  In some cases, I can ship directly to a C&R licensed individual.
