.54 caliber, 57 1/2 inches overall with 40 3/4 inch barrel, excellent bright bore, original open sights, lock is mechanically tight but needs adjustment to keep hammer at full cock, brass butt plate-toe plate-side plate-trigger guard-ram rod thimbles display a very dark untouched patina as does the pewter fore end cap, hickory ram rod is original to rifle, tiger stripe maple stock has very dark untouched patina, small crack under lock plate and desication crack at toe. Wonderful exaple of a western rifle that has been used but not misused.
Hubbard Hume is listed in Sellers as working in Plattsville, OH, 1848 to 1855. This area north of Cicinnati was home to numerous gunsmiths producing guns for the Western frontier market.
