Description:
SOLD...Antique 1873 Winchester. Honest 1873 Winchester in the very sought after 44-40 caliber. Has the standard 24" octagon barrel. S/N 291163 and made very early 1889. The bore is very good. Strong rifling all the way through with the usual black powder roughness. NO big pits or crators and no rings or bulges. It shoots just fine. No backed out primers or bulged cases. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly. Both hammer notches are correct and positive. Still has the original front and rear sights. The rear sight elevator only is a correct replacement. Still has the original dust cover that is a bit loose but still retracts with the lever throw. Dust cover screw is burred up as you can see in the photos. All the other screws are sharp and some still have 100 years of dried up oil around them as they have never been turned. The metal is a medium to dark brown patina. There are specks of surface staining here and there on the receiver and a little very fine pin prick roughness on the top around the dust cover and on the upper tang. It is not as bad as the photos show and the specks are barely into the metal at all. NO bad or deep pitting anywhere.  All the markings are excellent. The caliber markings on the brass carrier show some wear as you can see but are there and readable. The wood is pretty nice. The forearm fits tight and is very nice with no cracks or splits and shows just a couple very light handling dings. The butt stock fits tight with no splits or cracks and no gaps or splinters but has some initials carved in the right side {see photos}. If not for the "cowboy art work" the wood would grade near excellent. Very nice other than the initials. It is what it is !!! Over all, this is still a very nice 1873 with the octagon barrel and the 44-40 caliber. Very good and very shootable bore. If not for the initials in the stock this gun would be priced a couple hundred dollars more so here is your chance to get a nice 73 at a very reasonable price !!! Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Please check out my other listings while you are here as I might have more items that interest you.
