Description:
A superb example of a mid 19th Century double barrel "Cape Rifle" that was sold by John Hayton who was the largest gun dealer in South Africa.  Grahamstown was the town he traded from.  This gun was built by W.W. Greener and the serial number 6325 falls in the 1858 range.  The gold inlayed lines on the rib are for a sliding tangent sight.  The Cape Rifle and Cape Gun types with the wide top ribs and the graduations were used almost exclusively for South Africa.  There are 6 folding leaf sights to the rear and a v shaped front sight.  This gun is a 2 groove winged bullet rifle with a 1 in 30" twist rate.  It has set trigger on both barrels.  This rifle has beautiful engraving on all metal parts and the rifle is in excellent condition including the barrel bore.  A rare rifle and that comes with the original bullet mold.   It  has a 30' barrel, 14 3/4 LOP and weights 10lbs. 15oz.
