From 1968-1975, Garcia Sporting was the importer of Beretta products. The guns destined for the U.S. market through Garcia had a different naming structure than the Rest of World market. In the SO series - the Beretta SO2 and SO3 remained the same. But, the SO3EL was called SO4, and the SO3EELL was called SO5. After the "Garcia period," Beretta stopped using SO5, but began using the SO4 name for a new grade of Target Side Lock guns. Then, when the guns were redesigned in the mid 1980s, the SO3 became the SO6, and the SO4 became the SO5.
