Description:
.44 caliber, 40 inch barrel, 55 1/2 inchees over all, bore has shadows of rifling, barrel is mottled plum brown to silver, lock and trigger guard have dark smooth patina, brass fore end cap-wedge escudgeons-butt plate-side plate are aged gold, wood is solid with no cracks, J Henry and Son clearly marked on lock plate and barrel, US stamped in stock below trigger guard tang, circa 1860.

J henry and Son produced various styles of rifles from Boulton, PA. Many were produced for the western fur trade.  Some were purchased by the Federal Government to satisfy treaty obligations such as thee Ft Laramie Treaty of 1868.
