Description:
U.S. Model 1917 Eddystone in .30-06. An Ogden Amory, Elmer Keith inspector marked rifle. The stock is stamped with Elmer Keith's inspector stamp, O.G.E.K. with border. Elmer Keith, the famous hunter, gunner, gun writer and author of numerous books on hunting and firearms, was an armory inspector on "rebuild" firearms at Ogden Utah for the U.S. military. The stock is also stamped with Ed Kloster inspector stamp, OGEK. Mr. Kloster was also inspector with same initials and at the same time as Keith. To distinguish between the two inspectors, Keith's initials were boxed, where Kloster was without a box. On this rifle: Keith's inspector mark is stamped upside down in the wrist area of the stock, where Kloster's stamp is on the left side of the stock below the receiver (See photos). The barrel is stamped with an E above the flaming bomb and the date of 9-18. The receiver also has a flaming bomb stamped on the left side and an E stamped on the side of the bolt release lever. The top of the receiver is stamped U.S./Model Of 1917/Eddystone/1293887 (serial number). Besides the two inspector stamps, there is a 3M stamped in the wood behind the trigger-guard. There are no other military/armory stamps on the metal and the wood. However, on the left side of the barrel wood at the front is a hand marked "W", which was sanded smooth with the rest of the stock when redone at the armory. There are a total of 14 photographs, where all can be seen on Cabela's Gun Library .
