Description: Ethan Allen operated the Allen & Wheelock firm from 1856 to 1865 in Worchester Mass during which time he produced various side and center hammer lipfire revolvers including this little seven shot 25 caliber example known as the Pocket Model or 4th Model Center Hammer made from 1861 to 1863. It features a 3” octagon barrel with brass barleycorn front sight, spur trigger, walnut grips and brass side plate. Aside from the serial number on both grip panels, frame and cylinder there are no markings. It is in the "Original Lpfire Condition" not having been converted to rim or center fire.... It is a pleasing mix of brown and gray patina with some scattered ancient rust spotting... The mechanism rotates, indexes and locks-up perfectly.. The grips are completely sound... Flayderman thought there were less than 200 of these made and the higher serial number here doesn’t necessarily disprove that as they might have started with 100 (serial numbers were used for matching fitted parts). Further; he states that the lack of maker’s markings is “normal and correct.” A scarce Allen & Wheelock in unusually good, and original condition, and a great addition to any Civil War arms collection...You may email me directly at hearitaffordablehearing SOLD Antique: Yes |
