Description:
This spectacular No.3 is a complete custom build beginning with the rework of the action. We remove the forearm hanger which not only simplifies the action, but eliminates the forearm bedding that so many feel is an accuracy variable in Ruger No.1 and No.3 rifles. The forearm is attached directly to the barrel as in traditional single shot rifles. This feature also allows us to reduce the bulk of the forearm and create a very slender and graceful rifle that handles like a fine shotgun at 6 7/8 pounds.
The barrel is a 24-inch tapered octagonal Dave Owen (of Oregon Barrel Co.) custom chambered for the .44 Ballard Extra Long. This wonderful vintage cartridge has been resurrected in the form of the modern .445 Super Mag. We include 50 Starline cases which can be loaded with standard .44 mag loading dies. As the .44 Extra Long, the cartridge can be loaded from light .44 Special loads all the way up to and exceeding the .44 magnum capability. The rifling twist is 1:20 inches to accurately deliver those 300-grain+ bullets when needed, making it a very versatile cartridge. Combining the .44 Extra Long with our Custom No.3 resulted in a one-of-a-kind Trophy Rifle.
This action of this unique No.3 is set up with our exclusive Interchangeable Barrel System, which means that it can be fitted with another barrel in the future. If the new barrel matches the contour of the existing barrel, the existing forearm can be used for both barrels.
Presentation grade walnut graces this rifle while the receiver and checkered steel buttplate are casehardened in our own "Granite" pattern which features the usual colors with irridescent blues, plum browns, and French gray, but in more subtle patterns. Some have said that our casehardening resembles high-grade cut and polished granite. The colors change with the light and did not show up too well in these photos, but they really pop in the sunlight! The result is a look that is subtle and sophisticated.
This Custom Trophy Rifle wears our own RJ Renner No.1 Tang Sight and the Lyman 17A front sight for fine accuracy whether in the field or on the range. The full set of Lyman inserts is included.
