Description:
NSN, .44 Caliber, 2 7/8” barrel with a good, lightly pitted bore. This is an original “DERINGER/PHILAD'A” marked pistol that has an overall dark plum-brown patina with some of the original browning still present on the barrel. There is simple scrollwork engraving along the back-action lockplate, on the hammer, and on the barrel breech and nipple bolster. The underside of the barrel has extensive Birmingham proofs with two deeply struck “XVI” fore and aft of the wedge bracket. The lightly sanded walnut stock has numerous small handlking marks and minor blemishes throughout with a single with-the-grain crack running from the German silver nosecap to the wedge bolster. The checkering at the bag-shaped grip is still sharp, and the teardrop shaped inset along the back is still in place. The grip does show a nicely repaired crack running from one side to the other.
