The exterior is a smooth even thin grey patina with some good traces of faded original blue in the more protected areas. The grips are near Fine and retain 90% original varnish and no damage EXCEPT for some former owner having put his initials on the bottom. Barrel address is weak and only partially visible. All-in-all, this Root is a very decent piece and surprisingly, it functions smooth and well!! (That in itself is a rarity!). It should be noted that the Model 1855 was considered as being a very troublesome and unreliable model and that unsavory reputation almost caused Col. Colt to go bankrupt in the late 1850s. But because the 1849 Pocket Model and 1851 Navy Model were so successful, their profits staved off the creditors and that gave Sam Colt the breathing room to get in to the 1860s and the production of the highly successful Army Model. Easily “VG+” as described. $945 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
