The case hardened lock and the armory bright barrel are both dated 1863, the rear sight and nipple retain nearly all of their original blue finish, and the walnut stock is excellent with very good inspector's cartouches. Words do not do this musket justice, please see the pictures to see how remarkable the condition of this Springfield is. It is a true survivor that has been properly stored since it left the Springfield Arsenal over 150 years ago. This .58 caliber rifled musket is considered the main long arm of the American Civil War, with over 500,000 manufactured, and was a combination of small improvements made to the Model 1861 Springfield. It was considered by most to be the finest muzzle-loading long arm ever produced in the U.S. This example is truly exceptional and would be impossible to upgrade. This would be a centerpiece to any Civil War collection, and a fine investment. SOLD Antique: Yes Manufacturer: Springfield Model: 1863 Musket Type 1 Caliber Info: .58 |
