Description:
EXCELLENT CIVIL WAR ERA COLT MODEL 1851 NAVY REVOLVER WITH JANUARY 1861 DATE FACTORY LETTER. .36 caliber with 7 1/2” barrel with “ADDRESS SAML. COLT HARTFORD, CT.” barrel address. 100% original and all matching (including wedge) with 40-50% blue mixed with grey patina, some early style grey case hardening, most of the silver on the straps and lots of original varnish on the grips. Excellent markings and cylinder scene and great screws with some blue. Perfect working order and excellent bore and rifling. Really nice example with scarce Colt Factory Letter stating it was shipped to Smith Crane & Co., New York City just prior to the start of the Civil War. Relatively few Colt Navy’s letter as most of the records were lost or destroyed. Early 1861 was also a time period when many Southern Agents were buying in New York and other Northern cities for the coming conflict. Really nice Colt Navy with great letter.
