Personal Check with hold Description: Very rare Massachusetts Milita , Colt 2nd Model Dragoon, Revolver. All matching and original. According to "Massachusetts Marked Colt Second Dragoon Revolvers: Their Early History and U.S. Civil War Issue" by Douglas L. Hayes, Jr. only 100 Colt 2nd Model Revolvers were procured from the U.S. Ordinance Department by the Massachusetts Militia in 1852. Hays estimates about only 20 "MS" marked 2nd Models are known to exist today. It is marked :"-ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORKCITY-" and a "B". The left side of frame is marked "COLT'S/PATENT","US" and a "B". The bottom left front of the Trigger guard, the bottom of the frame, the bottom of the Barrel Lug and the bottom of the backstrap are marked "10577". The "arbor" and "wedge" are marked with last 3 digits of serial number, "577". The bottom of the trigger guard is marked "B" and the tang in front of it is marked "MS" and "o". The cylinder is engraved with mounted Dragoons and Indians, and "MODEL U.S.M.R.." and "COLT'S PATENT" in scroll engraved banners. The cylinder is also marked with "B", "10577" and "W.L. Ormsby Sc. N.Y.". The number "10577" is inked in the backstrap channel of the grip. The bottom left of the grip is marked with a boxed "JCB" cartouche of Joseph C. Bragg, U.S. Army Sub-Inspector for Dragoon Revolvers. The bottom right is marked with "WAT" in an oval- the cartouche of Capt. William A. Thornton, U.S. Army Inspector for Dragoon Revolvers. The bottom of grip, left side, left side of loading lever and side of hammer are marked "B". The left front of trigger guard is marked"F". Approx. 30% original finish remains on metal . Action functions correctly. Cylinder lock up shows only small amount of play. Trigger pull is Crisp. There is a very fine irregular surface crack that runs along the flat top of barrel.
