Description:
NORTHERN WEST VIRGINIA PERCUSSION HALF STOCK RIFLE CIRCA 1860’S. 59” o/a with 44” octagon rifled .42 cal. unsigned barrel with distinctive square bolster. Warranted lock with primitive country gunsmith hammer. Tiger stripe walnut stock with German silver patchbox and mounts. Double set triggers and original hickory ramrod. Fine condition with the original blue on the barrel. Stock with nice old patina and the original inlays including a nice cheek rest “STAR” and a “BEAR” opposite the lock. Excellent bore and triggers in working order. Very similar to the Patrick Lilly, Taylor County rifle pictured on page 140 of Lambert and Whisker’s “GUNSMITHS OF WEST VIRGINIA”. Nice example with colorful breech and hammer.
