Description:
AMERICAN SILVER INLAID PERCUSSION DOUBLE SHOTGUN, CIRCA 1840-50. 35" damascus barrels with gold 'London" inlaid in rib. Profusely inlaid with nickel german silver hardware including buttplate and back action locks as well as triggerguard. Ramrod pipes nickel silver with pineapple spray engraved ornate finial. Wedge sideplates also engraved. Extra long and wide ornately engraved triggerguard also nickel silver. Behind triggerguard are nickel silver dove or pigeon, large 3" fish with integral nipple trap and floral rosette. Large buttplate in nickel silver as well with same engraving. Although barrels stamped with Liege Belgian proofs this type of shotgun was popular in America and higher grade ones finished here in the Philadelphia style engraving pattern similar to Henry Deringer and Krider. Back action locks are solid silver with original engraved hammers. Perfect working order. Original checkering neVer touched up or recut. Bit of water staining to finish at left buttstock but not a concern. Original ramrod with screw type tip. About 14ga. Original nipples. No dents or dings in barrels and crown of muzzles excellent. Would make a nice addition to early American shotgun collection or just hang above a mantle.
