Merrill Carbines 16-28
 
Condition: Metal pretty much very clean, a little minor corrosion at breach end of barrel, lock is very clean, markings sharp, brass furniture clean and not dinged. Study has normal dings, scratches initials, “JWB, CH. Co. A.” carved in stick. Maybe identifiable-authentic marking serial # 7488. $1,800.00
 
Merrill Carbine “Made by H. Merrill, Baltimore. Total quantity about 14,495. 54 caliber, percussion, breechloader. Single shot, loaded by lifting up, and pulling back of the breech lever. 22-1/8” round barrel, with one barrel band. Brass mountings; finished bright. Iron parts blued, or maybe finished bright; excepting the casehardened lock, breech, and breech lever. Walnut stock. Sling ring mounted on left side of the stock, opposite the lock.
 
Serial numbered from 1 to up, Breech lever marked: J.H. Merrill Balto. /Pat. July 1858.Merrills were known issued to the following union cavalry regimens: N.Y. 1st, 5th, 18th; Penna. 11th, 17th, 18th; N.J. 1st Indiana 7th; Wisc. 1st, 3rd; ky.27th; Del. 1st. marked on lockplate forward of hammer: J.H. Merrill Balto./Pat.July 1858/Apl. 9 May 21-28-61, and (rear of hammer) the serial number. Stock fitted with brass patchbox, and the forend tip has sharply tapered contour. Breech lever is secured by latch of flat, knurled type. (16-28) $1,800.00
