They were made from early to mid 1880's. This one does have the proper 1881 marking. Another oddity of these was they had special serial number ranges. This one is 439 of less than 1,400 manufactured. A real chocolate brown patina on the bbl. Some pitting midway. Other light freckling throughout. The trapdoor has a nice chocolate color. The sidelock is more grey and has good markings. The Eagle is very visible along with the US Springfield marking. Stock is in relatively good cond. It has been lightly cleaned although not very much since the orig cartouche shows up and almost readable. These carbines were in 20 ga. A rare collectable item.
