Description:
Shipped as a nickel plated, 7 1/2 inch barrel 45, to Schoverling, Daly & Gales, New York in 1884, this gun, serial number 101691, is a good example of the typical Peacemaker of the period.  Most all of the Colts of this period were sold to the five large wholesale dealers known as the allies, mostly in New York, and from there to smaller retailers out west.  Nickel plating was the preferred choice of many western gun hands who carried their Colt every day in a rough leather holster because the plating would wear less than a blue finish, and it was also more rust resistant.  Ivory grips were also popular for those that could afford them.  In the 1880's, when ranch hands made about $40 a month, this nickel plated six shooter cost $18 and the ivory grips about $4 more.  While showing some normal holster wear, this gun is in excellent original condition, as are the old one piece ivory grips.  The action is tight and crisp and the bore is good.  A great piece of American frontier history.   PRICE:  $6,500   2% discount for cash or check payment.  We are Antique & Modern Firearms in Lexington, KY, dealer of fine firearms since 1974.  PH. 859-276-1419   We Buy, Sell and Trade.
