Description:
For sale, a very nice original Winchester Model 43 in .22 Hornet. Winchester began development of a scaled down Model 70 with a detachable box magazine on May 31st, 1944. Winchester wanted to have a smaller rifle to handle the .218 Bee, .22 Hornet, 25-20 Winchester, and 32-20 Winchester. The first delivery of Model 43s occured on Feb. 4th, 1949. The rifle was built for 8 years with Winchester discontinuing the model in 1957 after having built 62,617 of them. This Winchester Model 43 was built in 1950 and appears to have been used lightly during its life given its good overall condition. The factory blue finish has thinned in some areas but is strong on others. The bore in this rifle is excellent, it is bright and the rifling is sharp. The stock is solid with no cracks or repairs that we can find. The magazine is a non-factory replacement that is in excellent condition with no wear and a strong spring. It feeds the rifle perfectly. As you can see in the pictures this rifle has been drilled and tapped and has Weaver style bases installed. The rear sight elevator has been removed or lost at some point. There is also a period leather sling in excellent condition on this Model 43. This Winchester Model 43 rifle is a really neat little outift in a great caliber. It is in good condition so you can use it in the field or at the range without feeling guilty like you would putting wear on a mint example. Priced to sell!
